This month's challenge is all about getting back to the basics.
Our New You by the New Year is still ongoing so do check here to learn more about it.

DRINK more water and
EAT CLEAN, avoid fast food and junk food.

A word of inspiration: Happy 2013 Happy New Year

It's almost 2012  2013Yeaaah!!!

Note from the editor November 30th 2012.
I am doing a little updating on this article as we actually end 2012. When I wrote this article I didn't know that my hardest challenges were going to face me and that life would slap me in a face like never before. I gave birth to my 4th child in January 2012, it was my 4th C-section and the most complicated one. Not only things didn't go as planned for me, but our baby girl spent our whole 4 day stay in the NICU. Having had all my children by my sides right after birth, the nicu experience was quite traumatic.

Something I overheard while visiting our baby one night brought things into perspective  as I was feeling sad & confused! There was one mother who was a nurse at the hospital and her son was fighting for his life. One of her nurse friends said that she never had the experiences of having her kids in the maternity room because for some reasons all her babies end up in nicu. This one was her 3rd son. The sad thing is, when we were leaving the hospital that day with our baby girl, her son was making the complicated trip to a bigger hospital. The very hospital where the doctors told us we might be transferred to within minutes of our baby's birth. God intervened and our baby girl made fast progress that surprised both the nurses and the doctors. It was a blessing to finally come home because this was my hardest experience but I am well too aware that other mothers have endured worst.

I look back at my own words below...I was grateful then but I AM EVEN MORE GRATEFUL NOW.
The amazing thing is that 2012 started with hope of a new child, took a crazy twist right in the middle of January but have I grown in ways I didn't see coming. I am so different in many ways. Gratitude is my lifestyle, simplicity is my priority....I have learned to appreciate even more than ever, every single blessing no matter how small. I have become more disciplined, more persistent, more compassionate, more open, more patient, more confident in myself, and more in LOVE with LIFE.
I am learning since January 2012 to be truer to myself, to let go of things that just do not matter. I am more real and more at peace with myself...It's like I am seeing the rainbow after the tornado...

I meant all the words I wrote back then and I mean them even more today. Some of my success this year: losing all the baby weight with 9 months. I weight less now than I did before I got pregnant. I am no longer afraid of pushing myself.
I have met more wonderful people this year. The one that were not that wonderful didn't bother me much because they had their contribution to offer in making me better person.

I want to believe that I have made a point to bless more people this year than I did before. Thanks to the internet I am now using facebook as an instrument to impact more people. I am bravely crawling out of my comfort zone just so that the lessons I have learned in my pains can bring victory to others. I have seen my ashes turned into beauty in the hands of the God that I serve and love even more.

I hope you won't mind this little addition to the rest of the article. I just wanted to keep it real and I hope something I added today ministers to someone in a very special way.

Enjoy this article and all the many others. Please join us on our facebook page and be BLESSED beyond measure! ~~~~NB aka Goodhealthdiva!

As this year comes to a close I wanted to share a simple word of encouragement with you and offer you some food for thoughts.

I wanted to congratulate the survivor in you.

I wanted to take a moment to Thank God for watching over you, for keeping you, and for strengthening you.

You see, if you made it till this point, if you are alive reading this, no matter the quality of your life and the quality of your health at this very moment...there's a survivor in you and if you do believe in God, there's a God that has faithfully watched over you.

You might not have been granted all the things you wished for in 2011 2012. You might not have achieved all the things you wished to achieve and you might even have suffered some setbacks, some losses and some disappointments... but...regardless of it all...you made it to the end of the year and you've survived!

You've survived through the pains that seemed unbearable, physical or emotional or both.
You've survived through the days you probably thought you could not "take it any more" whatever the " it" was.
You've survived through any discouragement you might have felt in the course of the year.

You might have buried a loved one or more this year. You might have endured some tragic losses. You might have lost a job, a home, a friend or a partner etc. If you had such pains this year, I am sorry you had to go through that.

I want to
  • cheer you through the last days of 2011 2012,
  • offer you hope for 2012  2013 and
  • encourage you to not give up and be resilient.
You made it through 2011 2012, you can flourish in 2012 2013.

A year has obviously many ups and down. 365 days that are full of unknown and surprises. 365 days of events we can't always prevent nor control. 365 days of having to make the best of any situation, check our attitude and have the wisdom and determination to see ashes turned into beauty.

A year is not all about the 'bad things" like what I listed above...A year can and does have many pretty & pleasant moments as well. This year 2011 2012 you might have reached a special goal, bought your first home, landed that job you dreamed about, met some remarkable people, launched a promising business, lost some or all the pounds you wanted to lose etc.

Has 2011 2012 been a great year for you? However insignificant some  'small blessings' might be to some of you, I am hopeful that you have had some very good days this year. Maybe not as much as you wanted but there has to have been some good days in your life in 2011 2012.

This year might have seen many of your dreams come true or you might even have had experiences that totally surpassed your expectations.

Like my friend M-G  who had some experiences in the past 2 months that surpassed her expectations for 2011.

She traveled for her first time to Paris and London and to Egypt. The pictures speak for themselves, she is an excited woman.

What's most special about her is that she's the kind of person who always find a way to see the glass half- full. She makes herself happy. Believe me she had her fair share of trials in life and had survived a lot, but looking at her  now, you see a woman who knows how to make the best of her life!

She has survived a lot,but with her great attitude she's not just surving, she's thriving! She's an inspiration to me and I hope that the pictures I am sharing with you trigger something special in you...

In Egypt:
Alexandria

In Cairo

 In Europe:
 London

 Paris

Paris Le Sacre Coeur

Notre Dame de Paris

If you feel like you had more bad days than good days this year, I pray that 2012  2013 be better for you. I want to encourage you to look back and be grateful for the smallest things because there's always something to be grateful about and gratitude seems to be a multiplier of good things.

The more grateful we are, even for the smallest things, the better our lives get.

If you feel like you had more good days than bad days this year 2011 2012, I rejoice with you and pray that God's favor continues to rest on you and that you be used to be a blessing to others.

No matter what the year 2011  2012 has been to you I am thankful that you have survived or even thrived!
Yes... You are still here, and this is worth being grateful for.

Be grateful because many people started 2011   2012 alive and did not make it to the end of it. Be grateful because some people might have gone through some of the same trials you went through and failed to overcome like you did.

Be grateful because you might have been spared a lot of troubles that others might have endured this year. There is always something to be grateful for so, as you enter 2012 2013, have an attitude of gratitude.

May you be abundantly blessed in 2012 2013 as you remain grateful and hopeful for the best.

Get your saddle ready and prepare for your next ride and the adventures of 2012 2013! May 2012  2013 be your best year yet!

I did not get to travel overseas like my friend M-G but I have been blessed and inspired by her adventures and by mine! (smiles)

I am thankful for you all and the way blogging and meeting all of you have enriched my life. Blogging has been an adventure in itself, and meeting people from all over the globe has been a true delight. I never would have guessed that I could travel the world through blogging. Thank YOU!

What are some of your best memories of 2011 2012? What are you most looking forward to in 2012 2013?

Health & Fitness: Get swimsuit ready! Weight loss success story & How to workout on a budget.

Health & Fitness: A Weight loss story & how to workout on a budget! By Goodhealthdiva

It's summertime, most people want to have their beach body tight and be swimsuit ready. Are you swimsuit ready? Do you need some motivation? Do you know you can get swimsuit ready without a gym membership?

There's nothing like someones success to motivate and remind us that we too can succeed at a particular endeavor.
Today I wanted to share the story of a beautiful, focused and inspiring woman:Miss M or Missy,a high school math teacher from Lansing Michigan. She's a 35 years old mom of two gorgeous girls (ages 7 and 11)  who is well determined to live a healthy lifestyle. One of her way to do that is to work out from home. If you are new here please read my recent article

Some basic facts about Missy, in her own words:

Started my fitness journey in 2009
Starting weight: 140 lbs
Current weight: 137 lbs
Height: 5’ 5”
My journey has never been about weight loss, just toning and overall cardio-vascular fitness.

Since I wrote my article about the importance or benefits of working out from home,I asked Missy to kindly share her experience and motivate others to workout from home and stop making excuses for not taking control of their health.

Why was it important to you to have a home gym?

I am a busy, working, divorced mom of two. After losing family and friends to preventable health related issues, I was convinced that it was important to live a fit and healthy life.Going to the gym can be an hour to two hour long ordeal and I just don’t have that type of extra time.A home gym was the best option for my lifestyle.

What would you recommend to anyone who wants to have one? Any tips in shopping for equipments, any equipment more valuable than others?

Start small! Look for equipment at second hand stores and look for bargains.  You don’t have to have everything at once.My first “home gym” was in my living room with basic equipment.I had a yoga mat, some 2 lb, 3 lb, and 5 lb weights, a water bottle, and some workout DVDs.As time progressed, I added other things like 8 lb and 10 lb weights, resistance bands, and a pull-up bar.A mirror is also important so that you can check your form.I had a decorative mirror on the living room wall that I used, but eventually, I purchased four of those mirrors intended for the back of a closet door and mounted them really close together to give the effect of a larger mirror. They cost about $5 each.

Because nutrition is also a vital part of a healthy lifestyle, I also purchased a Ninja Master Prep Pro system for about $40 for juicing and smoothies.    Eventually, I saved enough for a nice, but used treadmill to complete my

For people who have a very small space to spare what equipment would you recommend as a “must have”?

Must Haves:  yoga mat, dumb bells or resistance bands, water bottle, and something to view videos on.  This could be a television with DVDs or a computer with internet access to get workouts from YouTube.

For those with neither space nor money what small equipments do you think are totally necessary?

When I initially began this journey, I was in this situation.  Again, I just moved furniture aside and spread out my yoga mat in the living room.I had a few small weights and WILL POWER!

What’s your fitness regimen? What activities do you do? How often?

I currently use Jillian Michael's Body Revolution to guide my workouts.  I am on stage 3…WHOOHOO and I love the length of the DVDs and the incremental increase in challenge.  I have not lost much weight, but that wasn’t my goal.  I just wanted something that would benefit my cardio-vascular system and help me to tone.  I do think, however, that this system would be wonderful for those trying to lose weight as well.
Following each DVD, I’ve added an additional Cardio strength challenge that will last for 30 days.

Are there any video program or Youtube videos you would recommend?

I like Jillian Michael's Body Revolution, but have little to compare it to.The other DVDs that I purchased were hit or miss.

How long have you been working out? What made you decide to take control of your health in that way?

I have been working out since 2009, which was initially prompted by my divorce.  During this period of my life, I was emotionally, spiritually, and physically drained and needed to turn things around.Couple this with the lose of family and friends due to preventable health related issues and I was doubly convinced that I needed to make a lifestyle change for myself and as a role model for my two daughters.

What’s the most rewarding thing about exercising and striving for a better and healthy lifestyle?

The most rewarding aspect of this journey was completely unexpected. It has been in the connections and friendships that I’ve made in fitness communities on the Internet.I’ve met so many positive, supportive women that help me when I’m less motivated and I’ve built some wonderfully genuine relationships; true friends for life.Of course, I am loving the way that I look and feel.  I love to shop, but avoided it for some time because I didn’t like the way that clothes fit on me.That’s a moot point now.

I love it when my daughters come and workout with me.It’s so much easier when you start young and make it a habit/lifestyle.
I feel so much better, have more energy for work and family, and just enjoy life much more than I had.It doesn’t hurt that swimsuit shopping is much more fun now.

How do you stay motivated to live a healthier life and exercise?

The online fitness communities that I’ve joined have been key. They keep me motivated and give me helpful tips. Also, the smartphone app, My Fitness Pal,has helped keep me on track.

What advices would you offer to people interested in being fit and healthy but are getting discouraged?

Start small.Use YouTube or something else to help develop a short 10-minute a day workout regimen and build from there.Go for walks, park further away from the door when going to stores or shopping malls, walk during your lunch period, increase your water and fruits and vegetable intake. All of these things will help and put you well on your way to creating a healthier you.

What advices would you give to some who have absolutely no clue where to start?

When I had no equipment and no clue, I did what I knew how to do.I put on some shorts, a t-shirt, some tennis shoes and went for a walk/run.No equipment necessary.  Just  you and the world. It was therapeutic and did wonders for my stress level.I couldn’t cover much distance at first, but I did what I could. As time progressed and I was able to get some equipment,I lessened the amount of time that I walked/ran and now I do very little of it, but it was all I knew to do in the beginning and it put me well on my way to where I am today.

I appreciate Missy for sharing her story. She reveals that living healthy is not a solo thing, we have to create a support system to fuel us to keep going but as you see she had to want it for herself, and she did. She is proving many of the point made here!

Missy is the perfect example of how important it is to start small, use what you got, maximize your chances for success by having basic workout equipments and make no excuses for what you are going through or what you can't afford.

Words of Inspiration~ How to stay motivated

Hello dear friends.

June is now here and we have made it half way in the year.
I know... that went fast... real fast...

How are you all doing? What about all the resolutions you had early this year? Making progress? Stuck in a rot? Got off the bandwagon?

Well, wherever you are I am sure there are some areas where you are probably doing very well and deserve a tap on your shoulder and a reminder that You Can Do It!!! Whatever your dream, your goal...whatever your "It" is/are....You can do it!

So here we are!!! Half way into the year 2012 you can move forward with a new attitude

A new walk
A new point of view
A new purpose for everything you got to do...

(Please Pause the music player above if you haven't done it and enjoy the video below. The Lyrics of Bravo by Ledisi are very inspiring)

Bravo

It's my new " anthem" for the rest of the year.  I am celebrating life, I am clapping for myself because I found new strength, I am still standing and still pushing and moving forward and I am so FULL of gratitude. I am grateful for many things such as  my 4 months old daughter, my children, the lessons learned already during the first half of this year. I am grateful for the blessings that have unfold this year, for the promises of many radiant days ahead and for Life.

Yes I am celebrating life and I hope you are or you will.
I invite you to clap for yourself
Step forward for the rest of the year with your new walk
your new point of view
and your new purpose for everything you do.

Be radiant like Ledisi below. I picked this picture because turquoise is my favorite color, because she is very feminine on this picture and she is looking up with a bright smile while sitting on the back of an old car.

To me the picture offers many life metaphors. I hope it would suggest you some inspiring ones for the rest of the year. Have a great 2012 for what's left of it and make the best of it. In the meantime BRAVO to you...

What message does the video leave you with? Is there any situation in your life the lyrics of the song and/ or  the photograph speak to you about? Do they support your current metaphors of life or suggest some new ones? Is there any change you are inspired to make? Any new perspective you gained?

Healthy Natural pregnancy: Week 38 preparing for baby & Teaching siblings to change a diaper.

I am soon to be a mother of 4 and having a healthy pregnancy and recovery is certainly a team effort.

Since I don't have any family around (mom and relatives are too far away) relying on the support of my husband, my children and some kind friends will be my best chance to a healthy recovery and to my success in this new phase.

To increase my chances of success (smiles) I am training my little crew to an unavoidable responsibility: Diaper Change!

I will not let them handle a newborn alone but it's still important that they know a few things, develop some skills and be more aware of some of the many changes to come.  They are used to babies and small children but having a new baby at home 24/7 will be life changing, even for me!

Success takes some planning and preparation so yesterday we held a
" Diaper Lab: How to change a diaper 101"

We had a short session a few weeks ago with an old doll. I suppose the first session was more of an intro because the old doll did us no justice...

We had our " intro" session weeks ago with a flimsy doll and pretended that a dishcloth was a diaper.

Yesterday we were better equipped. The doll we used this time around is called " Baby Alive" and she actually wears a real diaper.

My son D.A has been having too much fun giving her a lot to drink from her bottle so the doll peed profusely and was soaked. Perfect timing for another diaper changing session!

Imani received this doll from her "Aunty Karmen" for Christmas and the doll talks, eats and drinks and use the bathroom. Yes, the doll actually "urinates" and..."eliminates" .

This first time big sister takes her future role with such enthusiasm, it's beautiful to see her in action. She prayed for a sister and God answered... Please read this following story  http://www.goodhealthdiva.blogspot.com/2011/08/word-of-inspiration-babys-gender-and.html

The baby doll wears newborn size diapers. Thankfully " Aunty Karmen" offered a pack of newborn diapers just for the doll. Thank God this baby doll will never need upgrades to bigger size!!!

Well, time to see our little students in action:

My second son, D.A, was small when Imani was born and he is excited at the idea of a much younger sister. He said he would help with diaper changing but will close his nose if it stinks. This is actually very courteous of him as this is coming from someone who totally refuses to clean after the dog.

Hopefully he will treat his baby sister with more consideration when it's time to handle her soiled diapers.

Okay let's see...
Oops better redo that one! I can already feel urine or diarrhea running all over our hands and clothes with such a loose diaper!  He is redoing it with more precision...

Much better....

The last one to go was my oldest son, he is always helpful and is always the one to volunteer for a task. He changed this diaper so fast that he was done before I even noticed it!

What do you think? That's very promising isn't it?
With a week left to do some simulations, what else should we pratice?
